Looking After You! Adding Self Care into Your Day

Self Care

What does self-care mean to you when you are in a relationship? If you think it means spoiling yourself with luxury and pampering yourself, then you are not alone! But actually, self-care can be anything and everything as long as it helps you take care of you! After all, you can’t have a healthy relationship if you are neglecting to look after yourself.

If your partner cares about you as much as they say they do, then they should be supporting you as you strive to take better care of yourself.

How often do you take the time to look after yourself, not your partner? You may think you don’t have the time or you shouldn’t, but honestly, if you don’t look after yourself, how can you expect anyone to take how you feel into consideration too? You can’t pour from an empty cup, and you most certainly can’t keep neglecting yourself.

So how can you fit self care into your day and make sure you are taking the time to look after yourself, no matter how big or small the action is. The easiest way is to simply stop for a small amount of time each day and assess how you feel and what you have to be done. As well as prioritising other people and day to day tasks prioritise yourself too.

Rest and Relaxation

Simply put, just stop. Take any amount of time and stop what you are doing and rest. Whether it whilst you drink your cup of coffee, or you take a bath instead of a shower. Trying to carve out and dedicate some extra time for you in your day, no matter how small will have a bigger impact than you can realise.

Alternatively, try out these ideas for low-cost easy ways to indulge in self-care at home;

  • Take a bath
  • Read a book
  • have an early night
  • Get up a little bit earlier and enjoy some quiet time alone before the rest of the family wake up
  • Listen to your favourite music
  • Watch the world go by outside your home

Socialise.

It can be easy to neglect your social life when you are too busy or stressed. It is easier to let go of the whimsical things in your life when you are struggling with low feelings or a testing time in your relationship. However, by making time, no matter how infrequent, you can give yourself a much-needed boost and be able to see things more clearly.

Spoil Yourself.

You deserve it, you know you do! You don’t need to spend a lot of money or treat yourself but making sure to do something that makes you happy should be one of your top priorities.

Whether you are wanting to escape your day to day routine for a few hours, days or weeks or you simply want to go shopping and treat yourself to something new. Spoiling yourself and being a little selfish can give you a boost when you need it most.

Take a walk and get outside in the fresh air, or hit the gym. Whatever it takes, make sure you feel fabulous and refreshed afterwards to give you a little spring back in your step and help you feel more like you again!
